Commencement

Cal Poly's Black Commencement Ceremony was started to motivate and encourage graduating students to acknowledge their academic and extracurricular achievements and to express gratitude towards those who have aided in their success. Each year the commencement committee, comprised of that year’s graduating seniors, plans the spring graduation ceremony.

Black Commencement is an opportunity for family, friends, faculty, and staff to recognize and celebrate the achievements of the graduates. It is also a time for the graduates to acknowledge family, friends, faculty, and staff who have supported them through their long journey in search of knowledge and higher learning.
